If you don’t smile, it won’t capture. As simple as that. Sony’s latest Cybershot DSC T200 and DSC T70 employ face detection technology that won’t snap high-definition pictures until a selected subject smiles.
“Using the smile recognition shutter function selected by the touch panel, you can pick which of up to eight people is the key smile,” said Akira Tokuse who works in Sony product development.
Cool or not? I guess it depends who you talked to. You dare to bet that these cameras will not capture any picture of Mr Bean?

It is only 15cm tall, controlled by infrared and battery operated. The world’s smallest robot is made in Taiwan by GeStream Technology Inc and will be showcased at the 8th International Strategic Partnership & Business Networking Trade Fair for SMEs (Global SMEs 2007) to be held at Matrade Exhibition & Convention Centre KL, from Sept 6 to 8. This cute robot can be yours for around RM650 to RM700 making it the cheapest so far.
With 16 degrees of freedom, which translates to 65536 motions, the Taiwanese humanoid robot is the smallest, lightest and the cheapest in the world.
“This new version is suitable for robot games and it is easy for the owner to download and update the newest robot motions or movements,” he said, adding that it was also easy to assemble and disassemble the battery-operated robot.
“Because the robot is sold in pieces, the owner will need to programme and learn to build his own robot. He can also add in any motion he wants to the robot,” said Chang.

Colbert Low had invited me to join him at the launch of Nokia 5700 held yesterday in Midvalley Kuala Lumpur, unfortunately the event was held on a working day so I had to say no due to work commitment. Nevertheless, I got to see some nice photos posted by Colbert in his blog.
p/s: Colbert did you ask for the phone numbers of the gorgeously looking Nokia girls…
Looking at the pictures and the technical specifications below, I’d say the Nokia 5700 is one cool gadget that should be on your shopping list either for yourself or as gift to your loved ones.
- Vibrant color screen supporting up to 16 million colors
- 3G high-speed data connectivity
- 2 Megapixel camera
- Using S60 software
- Using an optional 2GB MicroSD card, the Nokia 5700 XpressMusic supports up to 1500 tracks

Are you living in cold winter? Or the airconditioner in your office or home is too cold for you to work on your PC and you can’t switch off the aircond for some reason? Well worry no more. This USB heated blanket will help you warm up your body and all it takes is just to plug in the connector to any of available USB port on your PC. Your feet also feel cold? At $25 each you can buy two blankets and keep one under your feet as well, as long as you have more USB ports to plugin. If not, just buy another USB adapter for all your USB powered devices and spare for the future expansion too because you can never tell what is coming up next to plugin into your USB ports..

It looks like Apple is in for more trouble with its iPhone. This time it is over the use of the term Visual Voicemail where a product with the same name already exists as part of the Nortel’s Voice Office Applications Suite.
I wonder, with over 200 patents applicable to the handset, as claimed by Steve Jobs, how many more will come up and join the party Apple did not invite that would potentially cost Apple millions of dollars. Is it worth it? Only time will tell. But if previous products by Apple is anything to go by, iPhone should be generating a lot of cash for Job’s lawyers to negotiate with the suing parties. Good luck to Apple.

I think everyone knew that Cisco’s fiasco with Apple over the brand name iPhone would eventually end up with lawsuit. However, what is more interesting behind this whole episode is why Apple took the risk of going ahead with using iPhone brand name when Steve Jobs and his lawyers already knew that iPhone is a trademark belonging to Cisco. If you are wondering about the same question, my post at Techzoogle may have the answer… Enjoy!

This must be the most anticipated handphone ever in history. Never before a handphone is so much talked about even years before its birth. Finally iPhone stories came through at the recent MacWorld 2007. I need not talk more about it now that it is a reality, just enough to say.. I love iPhone. Apple never failed to amaze me with their inventions. But if you are in Asia you have to wait until 2008 before you can own one…. why such a long wait?
It features a 3.5-inch touch-screen, it’s 11.6mm thin (that’s almost as thin as Type III PCMCIA), 2MP camera, proximity sensor, accelerometer, and ambient light sensors, Quad-band GSM/EDGE + WiFi + Bluetooth 2.0 and a battery life of 16 hours for audio and 5 hours for actual phone use.

I am currently using a camera that comes together with a Sony Ericsson mobile phone. While the handphone has all the great features I had wanted, the camera is not good enough taking pictures at only 2.0 megapixel. I want to take better pictures at higher resolutions. So I went to Kuala Lumpur PC Fair recently and got myself a 7 megapixel Nikon S8 digital camera. The camera is so cute and the picture quality is of course better than the 2 megapixel Sony Ericsson camera previously.
But once a human is always a human. Human never satisfied themselves. I began thinking what if I can get a 10 megapixel camera and a nice photo printer that can print really high quality photos. Hmmmm, it didn’t take me long to start looking for options available out there. And I am thinking about HP. Yes… HP not only produces excellent computer-related products such as personal computers and laser jet printers but also respectable digital photography products.
My search for a 10 megapixel camera landed on HP Photosmart R967 Digital Camera, voted as one of Top 10 Digital Cameras by PC World. Hmmm….. not bad, scoring 4.5 out of possible 5, the R967 seems very tempting. It has everything I want to have in a digital camera, and HP also has nice photo printer that can go with it too… I think it’s perfect combination. I want HP R967 digital camera…. I want! Hmmm if only I have enough cash. This post was brought to you by HP.

I visited the fair with my children today. There were so many people there which is normal for PC Fair in KL. After roaming around the exhibition halls, I came back home RM 1478 poorer (approx USD 400). But I was happy to be poorer by that much because I got what I had wanted for quite some time.
I had been thinking on a new digital camera and I was looking forward to buy a Sony T50, but my son CONvinced me to buy a Nikon instead .. But then it wasn’t a bad deal after all. I got my Nikon S8 for MYR 1388 (approx USD 387). For the offer price, the camera comes with a tripod, leather casing, cables, CD, docking station for charging, battery, and 2GB SD. Actually the offer comes with 1GB SD only but I bargained with the boss for a 2GB SD and he agreed. Not bad ehhh?
And the kids went home with two Kingston Data Traveller 512 MB at MYR 38 (approx USD 11) each.
This years price at the PC Fair is quite cheap. Just few weeks ago I bought a 1GB Kingston for MYR 67 (approx USD 19) and today it is selling for a mere MYR 57 (approx USD 16).
The vendors are getting smarter this year. Almost all purchases of bulky items such as printers and PCs come with free traveller trolley, which makes it so much easier to pull the boxes around the hall.
My wish list for the next PC fair? Maybe a portable 100GB hard disk and a laser printer. Who knows.
