Skali to put unemployed ICT grads to work

Posted by CJCM on 7th October 2007

KUALA LUMPUR: If you are an ICT (information and communications technology) graduate and having a hard time getting a job, e-business specialist Skali has an offer for you.

It will train you and give you a job in the Managed Portal Services (MPS) project, which involves the maintainance and upgrading of the 102 state government and 471 federal government websites.

Skali announced that it was awarded the six-year project, which is worth RM258mil, on Wednesday and has openings for 4,000 graduates in its training programme.

Through the programme, called Spike (short for Skali Pioneers and Innovators in Knowledge Economy), the company hopes to help unemployed graduates further develop their ICT knowledge and become entrepreneurs.

“The trainees will undergo practical training in multimedia and business, programming, IT networking systems, and project management,” said Aimi Aizal Nasharuddin, president of Skali (also known as Alam Teknokrat Sdn Bhd).

During the first three months, the trainees will be paid an allowance of RM500 per month. Once they reach apprentice stage, they will receive salaries of between RM1,200 and RM4,000, depending on their level of skill and competency.

The training will be conducted at MPS support centres in Selangor, Terengganu, Kedah, Pahang, Johor and Perak, and has already started with a group of 300 graduates.

Applicants should surf to www.spike.com.my for more information.

Aimi said that at the end of the contract period, more than 400 companies would be set up to take over the managing of the government websites.

“The graduates we train will get the opportunity to become entrepreneurs because they will be encouraged to form those companies,” he said. Skali will also outsource other work to them.

There is an estimated 8,000 unemployed ICT graduates in the country, out of an overall 150,000 graduates in total looking for jobs.

According to Skali, the lack of working experience and “very bad English” are the main reasons why there are so many unemployed ICT graduates.

“If they sign up for Spike, we will be upfront and tell them where they are going wrong so that they can improve,” said Skali co-founder and group CEO Tengku Farith Rithauddeen.

The programme, he added, is also designed to push these graduates out of their comfort zone so that they will start to strive for themselves.

Posted by CJCM on 5th September 2007

World’s smallest robot made in TaiwanIt is only 15cm tall, controlled by infrared and battery operated. The world’s smallest robot is made in Taiwan by GeStream Technology Inc and will be showcased at the 8th International Strategic Partnership & Business Networking Trade Fair for SMEs (Global SMEs 2007) to be held at Matrade Exhibition & Convention Centre KL, from Sept 6 to 8. This cute robot can be yours for around RM650 to RM700 making it the cheapest so far.

With 16 degrees of freedom, which translates to 65536 motions, the Taiwanese humanoid robot is the smallest, lightest and the cheapest in the world.

“This new version is suitable for robot games and it is easy for the owner to download and update the newest robot motions or movements,” he said, adding that it was also easy to assemble and disassemble the battery-operated robot.

“Because the robot is sold in pieces, the owner will need to programme and learn to build his own robot. He can also add in any motion he wants to the robot,” said Chang.

Posted by CJCM on 24th June 2007

AirAsia maybe just a low cost carrier, but it will be the first in Asia to offer in-flight mobile communication services to its passengers.

The service will be deployed across AirAsia’s entire fleet beginning early 2009, following a signing of a memorandum of understanding recently between it and mobile service provider OnAir at the Paris Air Show.

“Users of the service will also be able to send e-mail via their Blackberry devices or smartphones during flights,” said the spokesman.

Now, everyone with mobile devices can communicate with AirAsia… well done Tony. But please make sure your airplanes reach the destinations on time.. will you?

Bid for top spots at Bid4LinksPortfolio.com to drive traffic to your site

Posted by CJCM on 13th June 2007

Bid for top spots at Bid4LinksPortfolio.com web directoryI have just launched a new web directory, Bid4ListingPortfolio.com which is based on the increasingly popular trend of bidding for top stpos in a web directory.

It’s pretty simple in concept where your site will be displayed at the top of the list if you dare to bid for the highest spot in the directory. How much does it cost to be at the top? You decide…. of course it depends on how much the current bidder isholding for the top spot and how much you are willing to spend on advertising for your site. If you are not so crazy about being at the top, then you can just bid for a position at Bid4LinksPortfolio.com for a minium of USD1.00 for link building of your website which would eventually contribute to the ranking of your site.

Once your bid is accepted, Bid4LinksPortfolio.com will display your site’s link showing the number of backlinks from Google, Yahoo and Technorati as well as the number of pages as indexed by Google, Yahoo and MSN. It also displays the PR of your site… all are visible from the main page for the top 10 successful bidders.

Powered by phpLinkBid, I hope you like Bid4LinksPortfolio.com web directory which I have spent almost two days setting up and tweaking the template to make quite unique in terms of the layout although I wish I can be more creative in terms of colours. Give me some more time, I will try to improve whenever I have time…. do letme know your opinions and suggestion.

I am also thinking of developing the template further and make it available for download but that will take some times if it ever happens.. :)

Malaysian government may cancel broadband licenses

Posted by CJCM on 16th April 2007

You may be asking why do they want to to that? I think that because someone screwed up… and considering the parties and technology involved, the extent of damage possibly done, I’d say some one had comitted a big time screw-up. The government had issued four licenses to four service providers to operate on the 3.5-Gigahertz (GHz) frequency, only to find out that it had interfered with the operations of the Measat-3 communications satellite.

Are these guys telling us they didn’t know about the potential problems? Come on guys… you can do better than that.

On Thursday, Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik said use of the 3.5GHz frequency by the wireless broadband service providers was interfering with the operations of the Measat-3 communications satellite.

He blamed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which had given out the licences, for the predicament.

Measat-3 also uses the frequency, which is employed by the broadband service providers to offer fast wireless Internet access to the corporate sector, as well as other related services.

The other 3.5GHz frequency licence holders are Airzed Broadband Sdn Bhd, TM Bhd, Maxis Communications Bhd, EB Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd, TTDotCom Sdn Bhd and Atlas One, according to the MCMC website.

So another finger pointing will just show how capable these people are in carrying out projects of national interest. Malaysia Boleh!!

Top Ten Bid, another new web directory by Alang

Posted by CJCM on 4th April 2007

    Top Ten Bid

Although we have never met in person, I have known Alang for as long as I am involved in blogging and internet business. It was from him that I learn how to earn money online through web directory and articles directory. Subsequently, we became partners where I am the editor for PDAs Review, a blog that is part of by Alang’s SZAB Network. Alang expertise and resourcefullness in web directory is second to none among Malaysians, if not the blogosphere. He had came up with many ideas of earning money through web directory. 50 Pages Website, Ventedoy are two of his unique ideas of web directory.

Alang had just launched another interesting web directory concept called Top Ten Bid. I think you already know roughly what that means, but to know more I will let Alang does the telling himself. You can find how it works here at his blog (in Malay language) If you dont read Malay, worry you can read how it works here in English. The idea for Top Ten Bid is derived from DollarLinking.com,according to Alang.

Yes, I have placed 3 bids for my three sites CJCMedia Network, CJCM and IT and Kuala Lumpur is Home. I think I am the first to place the bids there.

Congratulation Alang on your new business idea.

Introducing CJCMedia Network, Malaysia’s premier blog network

Posted by CJCM on 24th March 2007

CJCMedia Network, Malaysia’s premier blog networkEver since I got myself into blogging sometime in August 2006, I am totally hooked into it. What had initially been blogging just for fun had turned into something that is both fun and rewarding. Within a relatively short period of time, I have transformed from a hobby-blogger to semi-pro blogger .. :) having secured blogger positions for sites such as Gadgetell, Profy (Note: I have ceased to be an author there), Techzoogle and lately Kuala Lumpur is Home, a Home Turf Media blog.

My involvement with Home Turf Media, a brand new city-based blog network, had sparked new interest in me in the area of setting up and managing a blog network. After some serious thinking and much research on the internet, I finally decided to launch my very own blog network. As a result, 12th February 2007, CJCMedia Network was born, although the ground works for the network had been going on for weeks prior to that.

CJCMedia Network, the first Malaysian blog network I believe, is a proof of my committment and passion for blogging. My ambition is to spin this Malaysia’s premier blog network into something that all Malaysians can be proud of in the blog network arena. That of course will not come easy as there are a lot of aspects that need to be taken care of in developing the network.

Although I am currently working to launch several sites authored by Malaysian-based bloggers, CJCMedia Network aims to pool together a network of talented bloggers from both Malaysia and the rest of the world.

I really hope this network will receive much needed support from everyone especially Malaysians. If you would like to know how you can be part of CJCMedia Network, here is a good place to start. Stay tuned for more news about CJCMedia Network.

Malaysian will soon be able to enjoy greater mobility with WiMax

Posted by CJCM on 17th March 2007

The Malaysian government had awarded licenses to four companies, Bizsurf (M) Sdn Bhd, MIB Comm Sdn Bhd, Asiaspace Dotcom Sdn Bhd and Redtone-CNX Broadband Sdn Bhd, to operate WiMAx networks in Malaysia. Interestingly, they four had beaten some of the big names in Malaysian telecommunication industry such as the heavyweights DiGi.Com Bhd, Maxis Communications Bhd and TM Bhd.

The services are expected to be available to the public by year end. Once these are in operation, Malaysians will be able to surf the Internet at ultra-high speeds from any point in the country, as well as enjoy new or improved Web-based services. Lets hope we can get better sercvices and cheaper rates from these four service providers. I hope they do not emulate my experience with Screamyx.
