The Importance of Search Engine

Posted by CJCM

GoogleI am always amazed when I find out how people arrived at my blog. Considerable number of visitors were actually referred to my pages by search engines. Today I checked the statistics of my pages and I found out the following search terms in search engines had driven traffic to my site:

1. Search term: maybank transmission media via Yahoo Search UK & Ireland
2. Search term: how do i mass convert jps to thumbnail size via Google
3. Search term: targa voipbuster via Google
4. Search term: freelance web designer via Google
5. Search term: voipbuster langua via Google

Yahoo searchSo, the moral of the story is, get your site crawled by search engine as soon as possible, especially when you are launching your new blog. From my experience I normally get new blog crawled pretty quick by linking my new site from a blog that are already crawled by search engines.

Guaranteed 2-years of really awesome goodness! (that’s a whole lot of awesome-ness for $5 buckaroos)
Edit details anytime you want! (change your design every day!)

And there will only be 1 milliom Awesome Whatever….. ever. And I had chosen to be 130765th Awesome Blogger. Yes.. you can choose any number as long as it is not taken.

Planning for Old Age

Posted by CJCM

For a change, lets not talk about IT or internet in this post. As human being, other non-IT aspects of my life do occupy a considerable portion of my mind and kept me thinking about it every now and then. Have you ever thought of growing old? Do you ever ponder what is your future as old parents? Would you have someone to take care of you when you are not capable of taking care of yourself? Would you be sufficiently independent? Or would you require help to provide long term care for you and your spouse? Sometimes, the more I think about it, the more scary I become thinking of the uncertainties of my future, especially in terms of financial ability to meet the obligations as senior citizens. The only saving most Malaysian have for rainy days are the saving made compulsory by the Malaysian Government through Employee Provident Fund (EPF). But I am sure this may be just enough for the first few years of the retirement. Have you planned for the future? Care to share with us how you have arranged for your financial indepedence at old age?

Pikom’s PC Fair 2006 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center

Posted by CJCM

Nikon Coolpix S8I visited the fair with my children today. There were so many people there which is normal for PC Fair in KL. After roaming around the exhibition halls, I came back home RM 1478 poorer (approx USD 400). But I was happy to be poorer by that much because I got what I had wanted for quite some time.

I had been thinking on a new digital camera and I was looking forward to buy a Sony T50, but my son CONvinced me to buy a Nikon instead .. :) But then it wasn’t a bad deal after all. I got my Nikon S8 for MYR 1388 (approx USD 387). For the offer price, the camera comes with a tripod, leather casing, cables, CD, docking station for charging, battery, and 2GB SD. Actually the offer comes with 1GB SD only but I bargained with the boss for a 2GB SD and he agreed. Not bad ehhh?

Kingston Data Traveller 512MBAnd the kids went home with two Kingston Data Traveller 512 MB at MYR 38 (approx USD 11) each.

This years price at the PC Fair is quite cheap. Just few weeks ago I bought a 1GB Kingston for MYR 67 (approx USD 19) and today it is selling for a mere MYR 57 (approx USD 16).

The vendors are getting smarter this year. Almost all purchases of bulky items such as printers and PCs come with free traveller trolley, which makes it so much easier to pull the boxes around the hall.

My wish list for the next PC fair? Maybe a portable 100GB hard disk and a laser printer. Who knows.

It Has Been an Exciting Week

Posted by CJCM

This week ending Friday 1st December 2006, had been very exciting for me. The weeks to come will be even more exciting and here are the reasons:

1. I just started my new IT Project Management job at a multinational IT company in Cyberjaya. I will talk more on this in my future post, especially on the nice office environment.

2. I just got accepted as a ProBlogger (well actually Semi-Pro.. since I am not full time Blogger)for a new blog network. Only a handful were selected for pilot project and I was lucky to be one of them. The blog is being setup and I will dwell more on this once the site is up and running. The domain name is ready but I will only let you know later when I talked about it in more detail. I love startup and this one is an exciting project. Watch out for more news on this.

3. My blog CJCM2u had been accepted by Blog to Profit, a relatively new startup specializing in blog advertising. For trial run, I have received an order for 5 posts, so I am going to work on it this weekend.

4. My latest blog, Sembang Gadget, the first gadget blog written in Malay language, is taking off quite nicely and steadily getting more readership. I hope this will continue for the months to come.

There are also a few new things I want to introduce in CJCM2u.com but I will leave that one for next time.

I am off to PIKOM’s PC Fair in Kuala Lumpur Covention Center with my kids and hopefully be able to pickup something cheap there. I will update on this later. Stay tuned and have a good weekend.
